Ivy Tech ASCJ to IUPUI BSCJ

Students who complete the Associates of Science in Criminal Justice at IUPUI can transfer to IUPUI to complete a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

The following information is specific to the transfer agreement between IUPUI and Ivy Tech for transfer from the ASCJ to BSCJ.

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this transfer agreement is to provide a basis for a cooperative relationship between Indiana University – Purdue University – Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Ivy Tech Community College (ITCC) to benefit students who desire to complete a bachelor’s degree.The intent is for ITCC students completing the AS degree program to move seamlessly to the BS degree program.

Transfer Agreement

Ivy Tech Community College graduates from the appended Associate of Science degree program of study in Criminal Justice, from any Ivy Tech campus, may transfer and apply a minimum of 60 credit hours from that completed degree to the requirements for IUPUI’s Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminal Justice.

Admission

Ivy Tech students are eligible for admission with junior standing to IUPUI provided:

  • The student has submitted a complete application for admission to IUPUI.
  • A course grade of “C” or better must be earned to be accepted for transfer.
  • The student has a 2.0 or higher grade point average on a 4 point scale.

As ITCC graduates complete the credit hour requirements for the award of the BS degrees in Criminal Justice, they must meet the graduation requirements as approved by IUPUI at the time of the student’s admission to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. All credit transfers are subject to general policies on this subject.

Ivy Tech Transfer General Education Curriculum (30 credits).

Students who successfully complete the Ivy Tech Transfer General Education Curriculum will have 30 hours awarded toward the IUPUI General Education Core requirements. To transfer to IUPUI, SPEA recommends Ivy Tech Criminal Justice students take the following courses toward TGEC: MAT 135, HIST 101, HIST 102.

  • CRIM 260, Research Methods in CJ, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as SPEA UN 200, 3 credits

  • CRIM 110, Intro to Law Enforcement, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as SPEA UN 100, 3 credits

  • CRIM 120, Intro to Courts, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as, SPEA J206 (replaces J306), 3 credits

  • CRIM 130, Intro to Corrections, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as, SPEA UN100, 3 credits

  • CHOOSE 3 credits from the following:

    • CRIM 103, Cultural Awareneness, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as SPEA J275, 3 credits

    • CRIM 150, Juvenile Justice System, 3 credits, transfers to IUPUI as, SPEA J205 (replaces J305), 3 credits

Total Credit Requirement at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis: 120 credits

Transfer Course Policy: Students may transfer no more than 60 credits from a junior college toward a SPEA Bachelor of Science degree. No more than 50 percent of courses taken to satisfy the requirements of the Criminal Justice Major may be transfer courses from other accredited institutions of higher learning; including all IU campuses.

Other articulation agreements: Students admitted to Ivy Tech prior to Fall 2013 will follow the articulation agreement signed August 2010 if following an older plan of study both at Ivy Tech. The student will also follow the previous plan of study at IUPUI, provided they are continuously in Criminal Justice. This will be in effect only through 2018.

For students admitted to Ivy Tech starting fall 2013, they will follow the statewide core and new articulation agreement in Criminal Justice between Ivy Tech and IUPUI.
